Falling for your best friend is one thing, accidentally getting knocked up by him is another…

Hockey hottie Garrett Dubiak has been my best friend since college and the one constant in my life the past seven years. Through distance, career changes, and other relationships, we’ve always found our way back to each other.

Including one wild weekend this winter, when he finally told me he wanted more… wanted everything from me.

Too afraid to admit I felt the same, I told him I needed time.

Twelve weeks later, here I am, pregnant with his baby, alone, and terrified.

He’s my best friend. He deserves to know the truth.

So I swallow my fear, my pride, and I shoot my shot. I just hope he’s still willing to have me—and our baby.

This best friends to lovers, surprise pregnancy was a breath of fresh air! I absolutely enjoyed watching these two go through the motions of being friends and soon-to-be parents in a completely unique way. And as my first Stacey Lynn book, I can promise you that I’m going to be reading more of her stuff soon!

Lizzie and Garrett have been great friends since they first met in college. Their friendship is one where they’ve harbored feelings for each other for a while, but it’s never amounted to anything. In fact, their relationship also evolves into them hooking up every now and then. But it’s friends first, so more like a friends with benefits kind of situation. But it works for them. Their friendship is strong and things are great. Till one night they hook up, Garrett says the three little words that scare the life out of Lizzie and she ghosts him. Only for her to wake up one day and discover that she’s pregnant. Lizzie struggles a little to tell Garrett the truth about the baby, but I appreciated the fact that she didn’t make him (or us) wait till he accidentally found out through someone else.

One of the things I really liked about this story was that even though Garrett is upset with Lizzie for keeping the secret for so long, he understands where she’s coming from. They know literally everything about each other, so there’s no doubt that Garrett understands LIzzie’s struggles and hesitations, and instead of getting angry and frustrated, he steps up to the plate. I really loved how seamlessly their friendship evolves into more. It’s not hurried and rushed just because Lizzie is pregnant, in fact it all happens quite slowly. Not too slow, obviously.

Their relationship is hot, though. No matter how slow it goes, you can feel and sense the emotional connection these two share. And that automatically heightens the physical relationship they slowly build over the course of the book. I loved so much about their story and watching them learn about each other even though they know a lot already, but also all the things that they never really said to each other before. I really liked that it wasn’t a new relationship, but more of them strengthening what they already share.

Garrett and Lizzie’s friendship in Game Changer might be one of my favourite things, because of how much they trust each other and love each other through all the good and bad. Low on angst, this story gives you the perfect level of cozy and warm feels to speed through the book in one sitting.

Thanks to Stacey Lynn & Valentine PR for generously providing me with an advance copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
