Synopsis: What happens when the hot nerd you were screwing at camp suddenly shows up on your college campus? That’s what happens to Jolie when she returns to her life and has to keep up appearances for everyone and Mick, her hot summer camp fling. It’s exhausting, it’s distracting and it’s a secret. But there’s so much more to the secrets that Jolie is keeping and that’s what everyone gets tangled up to make things more complicated every single day.

Review: This book. THIS BOOK! From the minute I started reading it, I was obsessed with Mick Barrett. Not because he’s the hot nerd, but because he’s just an incredibly well-written character. It’s hard not to like Mick. Rockstar name and swimmer’s body included, he’s truly one of my favourite male characters of the year. #BookBoyfriendAlert

Mick comes from a good home, but he’s never been one to care about parties or wild nights or any of that. To him, studying to save his father with ALS and other people with the debilitating disease is all he wants to do. Jolie, on the other hand, is the quintessential party girl. She’s really well-written too. But she uses her good looks, her status on campus and her family’s money to live a larger-than-life life. So much so that her partying ways has gotten her into a bit of trouble, leaving her with a secret that she’s not sure she can hold onto forever.

You know how they say opposites attract? Well, in this book, that is even more evident with how incredibly different the two of them are and just how wild and passionately their relationship develops and grows and explodes.

”The more time I spend with her, the more I realise that not everything in life depends on science and logic. When I’m around Jolie, I find my heart doing a backflip every time she smiles. I find my pulse quickening when she leans into me, or my breath catching when she touches me ever so slightly.”

Jolie and Mick have such a beautiful relationship. Sure, it starts off all kinds of rocky because Mick is the complete opposite of the kind of people Jolie spends her time with. More than that, Mick is so focused and driven and determined to find a cure and make the world a better place, while Jolie is focused on having a good life. Yes, she has a plan for the future and yes, she’s been demoted to community college to prove that she can focus on her studies, but she’s still a party girl at heart.

Gosh, the way Mick falls in love with Jolie….he sees her for who she is and sure, he judges her life choices and the things that she does to stay relevant with her friends, but he also loves all those parts of her. Sure, their attraction to each other is very physical, but you can tell with the way they are pulled back together that it’s about so much more than sex. There’s feelings involved right from the start and you can’t ignore that, no matter how hard you try. But it’s all the little things that they do together, the banter, the talking about life, the big conversations that really show you how good they are together. It’s evident where things are headed, right from the start, but you also can’t help but cheer them on as they go through the motions. How can you not?

“But now she was in my life, and she’d painted it colors I never knew existed. It was as if she’d summoned my right brain out of its shell, eclipsing the rational left brain in me.”

Thanks to Carrie Aarons for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
