Blurb: It was love at first brush-off…

Dr. Daniel Durand wanted Winnie Baker the minute he laid eyes on her. Never mind that she’s his attending physician’s daughter, can’t stand him, and she’s a few years older than him. Giving up would’ve been the smart thing to do when the hot blonde midwife gave him the cold shoulder at the elevators his first week of residency at Santiam, but he never did give up easy. After bonding over early-morning Mexican food, can he convince her that he’s just the arm candy she needs for that wedding…and get her to consider one of their own?

Winnie Baker isn’t taking her cousin to another wedding. Her mentor’s big day is far too important to miss. And she’s not going by herself, not with her ex-boyfriend promising to be in attendance and blowing up her phone with texts on a weekly basis, asking for another chance. But the pickings are a bit slim in Timber Falls, a sleepy Oregon town in the foothills of the Cascades. She moved here to focus on building her midwifery practice, not get involved with cute millennial boys with trendy shoes and long eyelashes. And yet, even this small rural hospital is feeling a bit crowded, with her mother and her group of doctors-in-training constantly underfoot…especially since she was supposed to be one of those doctors.

Will an easy-going guy like Daniel still be interested when she spills her secret?

Review:

To begin with, let’s just break it down….Winnie and Daniel work at the same hospital, in different departments. It’s love at first sight for Daniel when he brushes past Winnie, but she’s not going to be that easy to charm. Moreover, her mother is Daniel’s mentor and well…you know how that can go. It’s a small town and everybody knows everybody else, they’re all well connected to each other and friends. Daniel’s brother works at the hospital too and their family is known and respected.

Gosh, guys. I didn’t know what to expect going into this book, but I loved every minute of it. It had all the humour and warm cuddles and smart dialogue that I enjoy in a book.

Daniel is the kind of guy I’d love to meet accidentally anywhere and he’s young and enthusiastic and full of life. He’s also dyslexic, which has made his journey to becoming a doctor a little more difficult, but interesting. Daniel is determined and driven and when it comes to Winnie, he’s all those things and more.

Winnie, on the other hand, is a tough cookie. She’s older than Daniel, and a damn good midwife. She’s recently come out of a relationship that she thought was the one and her mother is a little more than overbearing. But Winnie will not let Daniel know just how easily his charm has swayed her. If anything, she’s enjoying making him work for it.

Every bit of this book gave me joy. From their first meeting to Daniel and Ainsley’s friendship and Daniel pursuing Winnie unflinchingly, to Daniel and Kyle and their father, to just everything. Lots of favourite tropes were packed into this, but you know what? It all worked.

I think I’m far too invested in the gang at Timber Falls, but I’m so excited to see where all of this goes. Bring on Kyle and Ainsley!

Thanks to NetGalley and Fiona West for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
